· Registration of Ships:
• Egyptian Ships:
Registration of a marine unit is necessary for a ship to acquire the Egyptian nationality, which entitles ships to navigate into the Egyptian territorial waters.
One of the prerequisites to acquire the Egyptian nationality is being owned to persons or companies that enjoy the Egyptian nationality, and also the shipbuilding should be under the auspices of the competent authority in charge of registration of a marine unit, and such registration is done after conducting all the required inspections.
In KORAYEM LEGAL SERVICES, through our experiences in this field, we finalize all the procedures concerning registration of marine units via specialists in the maritime law who have experience and relationships which allow finalizing all the procedures with speed and accuracy which distinguish us from others.
Many foreign units need to sail into the Egyptian territorial waters and this requires a special permit which allows moving freely in the Egyptian territorial waters.
It is worthy of mentioning that the only purpose which warrants granting licenses for sailing of non Egyptian ships in territorial waters is recreation. To obtain this license a registration certificate should be obtained from the flag country plus a valid residence on the owner's passport. when these conditions are fulfilled we take out the temporary license which expires with expiry of the residence following conducting the required inspections for the unit.
· Shipping Permits
Registration of a marine unit is not enough to allow it to sail into the Egyptian territorial waters, because this requires taking out a shipping permit. After finalizing registration and having the tax card which bears the name of the owner of the unit and also a certificate of social insurance for the workers of the unit and insuring the unit itself, a shipping permit is issued for the floating unit and a permit to raise a flag.
• Here are the types of marine units for which a permit is issued:
- Goods ships and tugboats which are operated in coastal voyages and international treaties for a total weight of less than 500 tons do not apply to them.
- Sail ships with auxiliary motor.
- Fishing boats.
- Automatic units which includes tugboats, launches, recreational yachts, derricks and dredgers.
- non automatic units which include barges, and recreational boats and diving boats.
A permit is valid for one year and it is renewed annually by a request from the owner of the unit or its representative after conducting the required inspection.
When the aforesaid conditions are fulfilled, we at KORAYEM LEGAL SERVICES finalize all the measures required for issuing the permits.
